Day-in, day-out the church loses members to the world; people who once formed a major part of the congregation. Some grew up in the church while others were simply admirers. Back in the day everybody respected Christians and Christianity because Christianity exemplified selflessness. But dishonourable men of sordid character have forced themselves into the cloak and have sullied this very respected office of a Pastor.
At the just concluded 5-day Enlarge Conference of the Lovegate Assembly, guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Henry Godson-Afful of Salvation House – Breakthrough Family Ministries International, believes many Christians are being deceived and non-Christians discouraged because the people with the right message are not heard. He says, “the reason some people have decided not to step into the church is because they met some dishonourable Pastors who messed up their theology and duped them.”
Reminiscing on his early days at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Godson-Afful recounts how he stepped in front of the lecture hall to preach the gospel to over 800 students while waiting for the lecturer to arrive. Every Pastor should rely solely on Christ and not be induced by money. Media has played a key role in projecting the image of dishonourable Pastors who have money to spend and have an active communications team. Most honourable Men of God are not heard.
“There are powerful and anointed Prophets in Ghana and you don’t hear of them but the dishonourable Pastors have money to push their dishonour.” Some Pastors are not real. They live beyond their means hiring V8 (SUVs) to impress other Pastors and deceive unsuspecting Christians and non-Christians with fake prophecies. Many young Pastors snatch members from other churches to populate their own church
He says it is easier to be popular being dishonourable and cutting corners but Christians must remain steadfast because people with honour will eventually win.
He asked Christians to be consistent with seeking God and work towards relevance. The event was the second edition of Enlarge Conference, which was initiated last year by Rev. Dr. Peter William Nyamekye, founder of Lovegate Assembly on the Spintex.
