Gov’t holds talks with teacher unions over new GES Boss
The teacher unions had threatened to strike and had said the development was untenable and unfortunate as the appointee does not qualify for the GES’ top job. The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum had defended the appointment saying that the accusations of the teacher unions were unfounded.
The government is expected to hold talks with three teacher unions after they threatened to strike in protest against the appointment of the new Director General of the Ghana Education Service.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT, Ghana National Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers had kicked against the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah. He took over from Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah, after a reshuffle by the President last month.

It appears the government is racing against time to avert a looming educational crisis. In a statement, Labour Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah entreated all stakeholders to exercise restraint while the matter is resolved amicably.
