GTEC to meet Colleges of Education Non-teaching staff over planned strike
“There was an invitation from Ghana tertiary education commission. We issued the statement on Wednesday and they called us for an emergency meeting on Friday but we have not heard from them”.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has invited the Members of the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana for a meeting over its impending indefinite strike which takes effect Monday, April 11, 2022.
Even though the invitation came late, according to the non-teaching staff, they are ready to engage the Commission on their demands.
The Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, served notices of an indefinite strike but they received the invitation for a meeting on Friday, April 8, 2022.
The staffs are demanding the following:
1. Wrong placement of First Degree Holders
2. Non-payment of migration arrears
3. Exclusion of payment of Generic Allowances
4. Partial payment of Office Holding Allowances
5. Non-payment of Interim Market Premium Arrears
Reacting to the issue on 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday hosted by Alfred Ocansey, the President of the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana, Frederick Forkuo Yeboah explained that “over 3000 workers across the colleges of education in all the 16 regions are involved.
“There was an invitation from Ghana tertiary education commission. We issued the statement on Wednesday and they called us for an emergency meeting on Friday but we have not heard from them”.
Mr. Fokuo Yeboah alleged that “anytime we meet for deliberations, the lawyer for the Fair Wages Commission asks for a time and that is why we have resorted to the strike”.
