Recently crowned overall Best Disc Jockey (DJ) of the year, DJ Switch, has attributed her success in sweeping the much-coveted award to her hard work and relationship with God, ABC News can report.
According to her, winning the 2019 Best DJ Award didn’t mean she was better than her contenders but God’s way of paying her for the hard work throughout the year.
Eleven-year-old Erica Armah Bra-Bulu Tandoh, who clinched the Ultimate Award Saturday night, saw off competition from celebrated DJs including, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Black, DJ Sly, DJ Mic-Smith and DJ Aroma.
Meanwhile, some social media users contended her victory as they argued that the talented youngster did not deserve the ultimate award.
Responding to her critics in an interview with entertainment blogger, Zion Felix, DJ Switch, who won the Discovery DJ of the year in 2018, said “I talked to my God and He gave me what I asked for.”
“I think I got the award because of the hard work. I’ve kept pushing and pushing. I started with discovery of the year, I pushed and pushed, I got four nominations this year and I won the Best DJ of the year. I didn’t do better than them, they are the senior DJs, but I think I got the award because of God. I prayed, I talked to my God that I needed the Best DJ of the year and my God granted me the wish. It’s about everything, hard work, I told God that people have seen my hard work and its time he helps to pay me with the best DJ of the year, the best female DJ of the year,” she stated.
Describing how she felt when she was called for the award, DJ Switch said she was ‘overwhelmed’.
According to the multi-talented girl, she knew she was going to win two of the categories she was nominated; Overall Best DJ of the Year and Best Female DJ of the Year.
“I was so happy, I was feeling great that day when I heard I’ve gotten four nominations…I knew that by all means, I will win with God. The best female DJ of the year and the DJ of the year”
DJ Switch received four nominations at this year’s DJ Awards; Best DJ of the year, Best Female DJ of the year, Best DJ Greater Accra Region, and Best DJ Artiste Collaboration categories.
According to her, she is “ever ready for that task because winning the overall DJ of the year encourages me to do more and get more awards”
