I’m a Politician, but Be Careful Listening To Us – Osei Adutwum

“I believe our nation cannot afford slash-and-burn politics. Let us share with you our vision and where we want to go and vote based on that, and Ghana will be a better place.”

The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cautioned the masses against the mere rhetorics devised and disseminated by political parties and their cohorts.

In an enlightening speech delivered at the 57th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Saturday, March 23, 2024, the member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) said the strategy is intentionally aimed at undermining existing policies.

“Don’t allow us politicians to tell you the sky is falling and everything is so bad. We call it slash-and-burn politics, which lets our opponents look so bad and some of you will sit back and say ‘Nothing good is happening in the country,’ and because of that, you may not even put your CV together to apply for a job.”

Counseling the public against propaganda, he urged the public to remain objective and dig out the facts to make informed decisions.

According to him, politicians are always up for votes and would therefore make up stories just to get them.

“I’m a politician, but sometimes be careful listening to us because slash-and-burn politics will kill you. Check your facts and make sure you don’t believe everything that we say. Do your research because there are times we will say anything to get elected, but you should be good political consumers. Check your facts before you believe what we say.”

Dr. Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, is of the view that the said slash-and-burn politics would be too expensive for the country if it is not stopped.

“I believe our nation cannot afford slash-and-burn politics. Let us share with you our vision and where we want to go and vote based on that, and Ghana will be a better place.”
