John Gatsi Educational Foundation hosts 12th Awards Ceremony

Founder of the Foundation used the occasion to entreat the children to develop reading habits to improve upon their understanding in order to solve problem and provide the right answers to questions during examinations.

 

The Ketu North Municipal Director of Education, Raphael Amenyo, has entreated parents, families, individuals and the government, to see education as the best investment that they can give to every child for positive future results.

He said, education is a strategic key that drives socio-economical and political development of people.

According to him, education is no longer a mere acquisition of factual information, and “we the stakeholders must be focused and determined to provide all children of school going age with quality education so that the they would become useful to their families and the country as a whole in the future”.

Speaking on the occasion of an award ceremony of John Gatsi Educational Foundation at Bagome Brotherhood Basic School within the Ketu North Municipality, Amenyo noted that “education in the communities within the municipality can be effective if various stakeholders partner each other having in mind that there is a mutual benefit to be derived by all.

“Thus the investment must be continuous and collaborative”.

He disclosed that, the Directorate is galvanizing and consolidating the effort of all key stakeholders in education delivery with the aim of enhancing teaching and learning, ensuring efficiency and commitment.

He however noted that, quality education is a challenge in the Municipality and needs the collaboration of all partners in tackling it, “as the John Gatsi Foundation is committed and systematically involved in the improvement of quality of education in the Municipality needs to be applauded”.

The Education Director, also
mentioned some of the activities he deemed affecting quality teaching and learning where some parents spending most of their time and money on funerals at the expense of their children.

According to him, school community relationship is lacking in most of the communities, disciplining wards is lacking in some communities
(no control over some of the students),

Threatening of teachers in some of the communities.

Classrooms turned into toilet facilities in some communities whereas unknown members lock Classroom doors, pouring glue in padlocks with nails to prevent assess to classrooms in some communities.

Head Teacher of the host school, Bagome Brotherhood Basic B, MC- George Bedzina, in his welcome address lauded the programme for yielding results as he noted that, “Professor, your foundation is impacting positively on education in the Ketu North Municipality. At least, we those in Bagome can attest to that”.

He said, the rigorous preparation they take their students through for the examination in a long way reflects in their B.E.C.E results.

Professor John Gatsi, Dean of School of Business at University of Cape Coast and Founder of the Foundation used the occasion to entreat the children to develop reading habits to improve upon their understanding in order to solve problem and provide the right answers to questions during examinations.

He also admonished parents to assist teachers in the communities to train their children and appealed to them to desist from any activity that threatens the life of any teacher.

The event was chaired by Dufia of Dzodze Adagbledu, Torgbui Eso IV.

The 12th edition of the John Gatsi Educational Foundation recognized students and teachers in the following categories:

Overall best student in the 2021 competitive examinations.

Best Mathematics student in the 2021 competitive examinations.

Best General Science student in the 2021 in the 2021 competitive examinations.

Best English Language in the 2021 in the 2021 competitive examinations.

All students who obtained a pass mark in all three subjects and

Best teacher and two runners up in 2020/2021 academic year .

Awardees went home with Refrigerators, TV sets, books, certificates, plaques, citations and cash prices.
