Mahama’s Dumsor made dump NDC for NPP – Actor Waakye
According to him, the repercussion of the crises at the time was so unbearable that he had to switch camp to get the NDC out of power.
Veteran actor Prince Yawson popularly known as Waakye, has revealed a lot more about his political journey.
According to the actor who is also an ordained pastor, he joined the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) few years ago because of the power crises witnessed under former President John Mahama.
Waakye disclosed, even though he was not a member of any of the two major political parties, he had friends from both sides.
He said he was closer to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) because he dated the sister of the wife of a leading member of the NDC and a former Member of Parliament (MP), Moses Asaga.
He said his association in that regard helped him to be friends with a lot of the party folks including the former President and now Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin who he says he respects a lot.
According to him, the repercussion of the crises at the time was so unbearable that he had to switch camp to get the NDC out of power.
The former Osofo Dadzie and Obra television drama star said at the time, he used to host a programme on Atlantis Radio and so the power crisis affected his job and domestic activities so much that he no option than to campaign against the NDC.
“You see, I said it over and over, I have friends in both parties. Even the former President, is my friend. You know I was going out with one lady who happens to be the younger sister of Moses Asaga’s wife so through her, I got involved with most of the NDC people.
The current speaker, is even my friend. That man, anywhere his name is mentioned, I will salute him and I have friends too in the NPP. That time, I was doing the morning show on Atlantis [Radio] and you know Atlantis, we don’t do politics.
That time, I kept saying this power on and off is something that is killing me a lot and based on that you know I don’t want to sleep in darkness so that was how come I went against my friends. They were my friends”.
Asked if in the next election he will still campaign for the NPP or go back to the NDC, since dumsor has almost been solved, he said he will decide whether to continue to do politics or not when the time comes.
“Well, will take the decision when the time comes. We will decided when we get to the bridge.
But despite his association with bigwigs of the party, he had to ditch his friends because of the power crises popularly known as dumsor in 2016. Will decided whether to continue to do politics or not”.
