A former Minister of Food and Agriculture who is yearning to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 polls, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has said that the cracks and happenings in the current NPP leadership breeds danger of losing the 2024 election.
According to him, the dwindled level of morales among the fanatics and staunch members of the party over unfilled promises would make it difficult for NPP to retain power in 2024.
“It is clear to me that morale is very low. The expectation of our activists around the country for a better life has not been realized so the NPP is not in a good place to contest to retain power next year,” he indicated.
Dr Akoto made this comments in Kumasi where he is touring ahead of the November 4 National delegates conference.
He said the boiling issue of not fulfilling the promises in the party should be given attention and pragmatic measures put in place, adding that there should also be priority on finding a flagbearer for the party.
Dr. Akoto said he is the only visionary candidate in the presidential race to address the aforementioned problems in the party.
Dr. Akoto urged the delegates to give him their unflinching support in the November 4 conference by voting for him to lead the party since the NPP’s welfare and the well-being of the people are linked to him.
“I have a very clear understanding of the problems on the ground because I have been a Member of Parliament in Kwadaso here in Kumasi, so I understand the concerns expressed by activists on the ground.”
The former Agric Minister is in the contest with four politicians who would be locking horns on November 4, 2023, in the NPP presidential primaries.
He placed 4th out of 10 aspirants in the Special Delegates Conference held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, which shocked many political commentators and pollsters.
Over 210,000 party delegates are expected to exercise their franchise in the much anticipated November 4, 2023 presidential primary.
