Ofori-Atta safe as Minority loses censure vote amidst Majority walkout

Ahead of the vote, the Majority MPs staged a walkout and decided not to support the motion of their colleagues from the opposition side of the House.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta is safe for now after a vote of censure against him failed.

Despite all 136 NDC MPs voting in favour of the motion to oust the minister, it failed to meet the constitutional threshold of 183 Members of Parliament which is two-thirds of MPs.

The motion, which was debated on Thursday, December 12, 2022, and subsequently voted on, had only the Minority members voting through the secret ballot.

Ahead of the vote, the Majority MPs staged a walkout and decided not to support the motion of their colleagues from the opposition side of the House.

According to the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Mensah, who led the walkout, his side cannot be part of a process that is baseless and politically motivated.
