Parents pleads with government to meet the demands of striking teachers.
“Due to the strike, the children are now roaming aimless at home and they are very noisy as well, since the teachers declared the strike, we haven’t gotten our peace of mind due to the noisy nature of these children, so I will plead with the government to do what the teachers want for them to go back to the classroom.”
Some parents who have their wards attending public schools within the Bono East region capital Techiman and its surrounding communities, are pleading with the government to as a matter of urgency provide the needs of the striking teachers to enable them to go back to the classroom to continue their work.
The parents, believes the decision of the teachers to embark on strike will go a long way to affect the progress of their wards especially those preparing to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
On March 20, the three teacher unions namely, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) declared a strike due to unsatisfactory conditions of service.
According to the unions, the government had failed to renew its collective agreement, among other concerns, following its expiration in 2023.
They argued that since all efforts to get the government to the negotiation table have proven futile, laying down their tools was their last resort.
Speaking to Newsmen in an interview amidst the strike of the 3 teacher Unions in the country, some of the parents expressed how the strike is affecting the learning of their wards with others expressing frustrations on how these young ones move around aimlessly without any beneficial activities.
They therefore pleaded with the government to as a matter of urgency attend to the plea of these striking teachers to ensure all their demands are met for them to return to the classroom to continue teaching to help ameliorate the danger that may happen as a result of the aimless movement of the students in the streets.

Another parent said, “the children are now at home doing nothing, they don’t even open their books let alone read it, so I will plead with the government to sit with the teachers and meet their demands, our children have to be in the classroom to learn in order to have a bright future so I will plead with government to do what the teachers want.
