Rotary Club of Accra-Adjiringanor supports young Orphan’s Vocational Training

The Rotary Club of Accra-Adjiringanor with support from their Assistant Governor Gertrude Adzo Akpalu, has donated amount of Ghc1,200 to support Lucy – a young female orphan struggling to complete her training in dress making.

According to Lucy, she lost both parents at a very young age and had no choice but to seek greener pastures in Accra from Lawra in the Upper West Region.

She worked at Kantamanto doing alterations (dressmaking) and later as a house help. Her dream is to become a fashion designer and so she enrolled in a dress making school at Abeka where she still owes part of the required fees.

The Ghc 1,200 donation to her is to enable her use Ghc 500 to settle her outstanding fees and the rest to cover her living and transportation expenses.

The club promised to look out for her and support her under the Rotary’s Area of Focus on Economic and Community Empowerment.

Lucy thanked the club for the kind gesture and said it was timely because without it she would have dropped out from the skills training programme completely. Her narration sent some chills down the spines of the club members as they expressed their appreciation to her commitment and perseverance in the pursuit of a dignified life and occupation.

She mentioned that the Woman she currently lives with is a good Samaritan – a single parent who picked her up from the Kantamanto market out of love and pity to give her shelter and support in her own small way.

She prayed that God replenishes the donation received and all who have looked with pity upon her all these while so that they may have more to help others in similar situations.

There was a great sense of fulfillment from all the club members who were at the club meeting.

“It is our hope that this little act of kindness and love shown to Lucy will give her more hope and transform her life. As a club, we will continue to ‘do good’ and serve above self and to change lives.

“We invite everyone who is passionate about helping the less privileged in society to join us, as we support others in our project series dubbed ‘Rotary Club of Accra-Adjiringanor: Taking big steps to empower individuals and communities,” stated Gertrude Adzo Akpalu.
