The Mayor of Tamale, Hon Iddrisu Musah Superior has commissioned an ultra-modern 2-storey toilet facility for the Tamale central market.
The 32 seat ultra-modern toilet facility which was constructed by Gapo Enterprise in partnership between the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly is one of its kind in the Northern Regions will improve the sanitary conditions at the market.
Facilities in the toilet include fans, washing sinks, mirrors, offices, bathrooms, outer space for ablution and among others.
Speaking at the commissioning, Hon Musah Iddrisu Superior urged the traders at the market to take good care of the toilet facility to enable the facility to reach its life span.
He noted that at first traders at the market especially women were suffering a lot with regards to the old dilapidated toilet facility, saying, people have to use perfume spray after entering the toilet.
“Now we have the best toilet facility in Northern Ghana and I am most excited…When I first here as a major, the toilet that was here was total not usable…. it was not good for human use so I promise them that I was going to build a toilet for them, we started this a year ago and today Insha Allah we have the best toilet facility in Northern Ghana”.
Mr. Musah Superior revealed that despite the facilities inside the toilet, users of the toilet facility will still pay the old price of 5 pesewas.
The Tamale Major hinted that other markets within the metropolis will get it share of the ultra-modern sanitary facilities, adding that, Aboabo market will also get the same toilet facility soon.
A contractor for the project on behalf of the CEO of GAPO Enterprise, Joseph Salifu Gooji thanked the Tamale Mayor and the Assembly for the partnership and added that the company in the future will explore other projects to bring the needed infrastructure development to the Tamale metropolis.
Mr. Salifu Gooji also expressed the company’s profound gratitude to the masons, laborers, and traders at the market for their enormous contribution during the construction of the toilet facility.
The former Assemblyman for the Moshie Zongo Electoral Area, Hon Hamdawey Issahaku who supervised the project until its completion urged the traders at the market to protect the toilet and ensure that things are done right.
He commended the Mayor of Tamale, Hon Iddrisu Musah Superior for initiating the project.
The Women Organiser of the Tamale Central Market Women Association, Hajia Rahinatu thanked the Tamale Mayor for constructing the toilet facility for the market, reiterating that, they appreciate the good works of the Tamale Mayor in addressing challenges of the market.
She assured the Tamale Mayor and the Assembly that, the Association will take good care of the facility.
