Tema: Community 9 Residents In Fear Over Surge In Criminal Activities

According to the residents, their predicament begun after the assemblyman for the area allocated a portion of the community to some squatters including a drinking pub which has become a haven for these criminals.

Some residents of Old Chaska, a suburb of Tema Community 9 in the Tema region, are living in fear following a surge in criminal activities there.

Their fear stem from recent activities by some unknown miscreants who have suddenly found their way into the community.

According to the residents, their predicament begun after the assemblyman for the area allocated a portion of the community to some squatters including a drinking pub which has become a haven for these criminals.

They claim, activities of the said drinking bar has also become a major threat to their lives and properties following series of bloody fights between patrons of the pub and also the spate of other criminal activities in the community.

Zenab Hassan, a resident of the area told Atinkanews, she always get scared at night when she closes from work, with the sight of these supposed hoodlums taking shelter by one of the structures closer to the pathway.
Mr Frank Asante, a freight forwarder whose home has been burgled in recent times say, life in the community is becoming unbearable.

Another resident Frank Ashitey who claimed to have lost his car battery and other valuables a week ago, vented his frustrations on the assemblymember for the area, for doing little to address their plight despite several petitions to him.

Meanwhile assemblymember of the area, Joseph Kotoh when contacted said, he is unaware about such an issue, promising to meet with the residents to address their concerns.

In a related development, the Tema Regional Crime office, has promised to conduct investigations into the matter and apprehend persons behind recent burglaries in the community.
