The Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan Story – What you need to know

Now in court, a DNA was ordered and it proved that all the kids were his which to me, would have been the Central issue! That the kids were his was enough even if the court didn't grant anything else.

In 2002, at the tender age of 17, Gifty Gyan (Asamoah Gyan’s now ex-wife) found herself in a “marriage of convenience” with a relative in pursuit of UK papers, a scheme widely known to many of us up to this day. We call it “paper marriage” and all sorts of names.

At the time, she was in a relationship with Asamoah Gyan, who was then, respectfully, an ordinary player at Liberty Professionals, far from fame or fortune but his potential would have been apparent. He and Gifty Gyan began to live as a married couple, sharing their lives and welcoming their first two children. However, it was not until 2013, under the pressure of Asamoah Gyan’s mother, that the official marriage between him and Gifty took place.

The story of how he treated his wife and his kids is not for social media because no marriage or husband is perfect, especially held against the blistering spotlight of the stupendous superstar that Gyan was and still is.

In 2018, after series of allegations and counter allegations, he decided to divorce his wife. But like most rich men planning a divorce, he weighed his options.

He wisely realized filing a divorce may cost him a lot. So what does he do? He went to court.

Note, he went to court, not the wife dragging him to court to get a settlement because he was rich. He went court, surrounded by his doting senior brother and cheerleading sycophants.

In court, he invoked Gifty’s initial marriage of convenience as a means to challenge her legal entitlements as his wife to avoid any substantial financial implications for his fortunes.

So in court, he goes for Gifty’s first marriage of convenience which results and benefit still cover his own children in the UK currently to make his case.

He argued that because Gifty was “married” in 2002, his marriage to her in 2013 was illegal, null and void.

In short, he was in court, not for a divorce, but an annulment. The marriage should be declared as non-existent from day one! Smart Gyan, I grant him that.

You see, if he was only annulling the marriage that wouldn’t be a problem.

He also made damning allegations against this same wife who was with him when he had nothing and nobody knew him apart from Liberty Professional supporters and a handful of GPL diehards. He and some of his accolytes alleged and suggested she was sleeping around and that all the three children from – from Frederick to Ohemaa – were not his, not only tarnishing his wife’s reputation but traumatizing his kids in a country their schoolmates can easily read what their classmate’s father is up to on the internet.

Now in court, a DNA was ordered and it proved that all the kids were his which to me, would have been the Central issue! That the kids were his was enough even if the court didn’t grant anything else.

Nothing is more important than a woman’s honour in the face of false accusations of sleeping around like a Russian Shepherd dog flown into Dubai’s heat on a Friday afternoon. She was vindicated. At least the kids are his!

On the marriage, the court granted the annulment because of the first marriage of convenience despite agreeing that a 17 year old cannot legally enter into a marriage, never mind if it was a “marriage of convenience”.

So, if Gifty was married in 2002, her marriage to Gyan in 2013 was null and void but the kids are his.

But granted, at least the kids are his!

The court then proceeded to award to Gifty what bloggers are publishing all over the place – 2 houses, Cars etc.

These are the facts as I know them; I leave the judgment to you as the reader.

Forgive me if I appeared biased in some sentences.

NB: My bias in favour of women in such cases stems from my own mother’s experiences, as I have written before.
