We need deliberate approach in maintaining ambulances – Alex Akwasi Acquah

Deputy Minister Designate at the Ministry of Health and Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has challenged the government to take a deliberate approach towards the maintenance of ambulances in the country for efficient use. Taking his turn before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the nominee mentioned that the role of the ambulance service is critical to quality and reliable healthcare delivery in every country; hence, much attention should be paid to the service. According to Mr. Acquah, we need to appreciate what has been done so far in terms of providing a service to take care of emergencies, but we also need to keep in mind that these ambulances are just like other vehicles. “If they break down, they need to be repaired. if they are out of use, they need to be replaced”, he stressed. Stating what can be done to prevent the inefficient use of the service, the nominee also noted that the government needs to look at the importance of the service and structure budgets in such a way that gives the service the ability to acquire more vehicles to add up to what is already in the system and be able to maintain and sustain the available ones to be ready to serve its purpose. “The ambulance service has actually come to fill a void in our healthcare delivery system”, he added.
