Combating Climate Change: Ghanaian NGO takes On the Fight
James Asamoah noted that knowledge on climate change is undeniably low not only in Ghana, but throughout Africa, thus making the people take it for granted.
Apparently perturbed by the devastating effects of climate change on society of late, a Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has taken on the fight to ensure that the canker is contained considerably.
To this effect, Care for Humanity Initiative Foundation (CHIF) the NGO, has taken the bull by the horn by taking the fight to kids, youth and parents as well as the general public through education, information, demonstration and many more.
Briefing ghananewsonline.com.gh in an interview, James Asamoah, the Executive Director of CHIF stated that a lot has been achieved since they started the activism way back in 2017.
He indicated that over ten (10) Districts in the country have been toured by the CHIF so far in this regard. These include Afram Plain South, Mamprugu/Moadori, Aowin/Suaman, Ada and Asawao Wogun.
Climate Change Knowledge Low in Africa

Train the Child the Fight Way –He Should Go
The CHIF E.D hinted that armed with the Biblical admonition to train the child the right way so that when he grows, he does not depart from it, CHIF has initiated a programme from the Basic to the secondary levels in their educational drive in this respect. Mr. Asamoah stated that so far over 500 volunteers from tertiary institutions such as University of Ghana/ Legon. CapeVas KNUST, WInneba, Tamale and others have been mobilized to whether the storm.
Youth Leadership in Climate Change & Environmental Problems
The Executive Director stated that among the activities of his CHIF Group is advocacy on the rural child to help save rural education and climate change.
In this regard, over 200 activists have been trained both locally and abroad. He mentioned that having realized the critical problems associated with climate change, CHIF has initiated the programme, “Youth Leadership in Climate and Environmental Policy”
“By this, we train the youth who in turn pass on the knowledge to kids to develop the skill and knowledge needed for climate and environmental protection actions and also participate in decision making process”, he stressed.
According to him about seven (7) participates have so far been trained in Scotland, the UK in March this year, with the intent to train more in subsequent years to a chief the needed goals.
Thankful To Partners in Climate Change Fight.
Mr. Asamoah was particularly thankful to Islington Climate Center (ICC) AIK, London, for organizing a training seminar for activists in March this year. He indicated that their partners gave them materials on the subject matter to be used and applied back home.
Climate Change Is Emergency Crisis
The CHIF Executive Office opined that climate change is an emergency crisis and should be treated as such. In this respect, CHIF intends to train about 200 activists every year to take the fight head-on. These activists, he said, will pass on their knowledge others. They could involve all manner of persons- teachers, pastors, journalists, politicians, etc, no matter their background.
“Climate Change is an emergency Crisis, needing emergency attention from all, irrespective of backgrounds and sectors!” he hinted.
Asamoah stated that CHIF, besides its mandated activities will also get involved in tree – planting involving kids, by encouraging them plant at least a tree in their life time. Also he advocated Climate Change lessons from Basic to Tertiary levels to fight the menacing Canker- Climate Change.
