La Nkwantanang–Madina Heralds Social Cohesion

The occasion was marked by a soccer gala involving six communities in the area. The maiden edition of the celebration was aimed at fostering togetherness in the quest to improve the status quo of the development of the area.

The LA Nkwantanang–Madina Municipality has embraced social cohesion and upliftment through the organization and celebration of the maiden Post Homowo. The event was on the theme, Homowo, our cultural heritage.

The occasion was marked by a soccer gala involving six communities in the area. The maiden edition of the celebration was aimed at fostering togetherness in the quest to improve the status quo of the development of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount chief of the La Nkwantanang, Nii Kotei Dzoor I, secretary to the Divisional Council, Rev. Emmanuel Djani Nikoi, said the first ever celebration of the post Homowo is to bring the people together. He lauded the organizer of the event and said the Divisional Council is proud to be part of the initiation of the event and this will help promote their socio-cultural heritage as a people.

The Assemblyman of La Nkwantanang East, Abraham NII odei, used the occasion to list out a number of challenges the community is facing. He said about 70% of the youths of Madina are unemployed and that is worrisome. He said the lack of proper drainage system is also a problem. He has therefore called on the Municipal Assembly to as a matter of urgency come in and intervene.

Narrating how challenging the maiden post Homowo by the La Nkwantanang had been, David Djani expressed delight at the success of the event despite the challenges. He anticipates that subsequent years would be subjected to massive preparations and improvements.

Gracing the occasion was the Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu who presented to the participating teams six sets of jerseys. Hon Sosu was optimistic that next year’s election will see Madina recording no issue of chaos but peace and tranquility.

He entreated all Ghanaians Eighteen years and above to exercise their franchise via changing any unwanted mode of governance that suits their growth and wellbeing.
