Why Alan Kyerematen finally resigned from the NPP

Meanwhile, the NPP has urged its rank and file to remain calm and await the official address by the party to Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s resignation and other allegations.

Announcing his official resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the second time to contest as an Independent Presidential Candidate, the Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has blamed his former political party for failing to fulfill all the promises made to him by the party’s leadership. He said it was some of those promises that made him to accept their plea and joined the campaign team for then Candidate Akufo-Addo, however, he felt let down by the turn of events.

According to Alan, who is also a former diplomat, the current NPP does not in any form resemble the party he helped form in 1992 because they treat anybody in support of him Alan Kyerematen as an outcast

“It is common knowledge that any party member, who is associated directly or indirectly with Alan, is treated with disdain and considered an outcast,” he said at a press conference to announce the way forward for his political future.

Mr. Kyerematen said he has endured all the resentment, and that, irrespective of that, he has maintained his integrity within the party throughout the past fifteen years.

Alan Kyerematen is also of the view that the recent Super Delegates Conference of the NPP was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular aspirant.

He was however quick to state that his resignation was not meant to separate or disintegrate the NPP.

He promised to appoint Ministers and other key government officials from all Parties. He will also include individuals who are apolitical but have demonstrable and proven track record of performance, in their field of specialization in his government if elected as president.

“In a country like Ghana, that is currently embroiled in divisive political turmoil, an Independent Candidate who becomes President, will be a bipartisan and honest broker amongst different political parties, and will bring healing and reconciliation to our body politic.

“Ministers and other key Government officials will be appointed from all Parties, and shall also include individuals who are apolitical but have a demonstrable and proven track record of performance, in their field of specialization.

What Ghana needs now is a new leader and not a new political party,” he stated.
