Little girl among two lives lost in tragic Anloga Junction accident – Official

“Quite a disturbing development but I think it is high time authorities took urgent steps to address this issue. There should be police visibility around this stretch, our traffic lights are not working. We will come back to this topic again if authorities don’t do the needful”,

The death toll from a ghastly road accident at Anloga Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality in the Ashanti Region rose to two as rescuers worked to clear the wreckage where at least five others were left injured.

The victims, a male adult and a little girl were confirmed dead at the scene, and their remains were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, an official from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) told dailymailgh.com.

The accident involved a stationary truck carrying agrochemicals that veered out of control, causing casualties and damage on the busy road junction Thursday evening.

“The truck continued to descend towards Anloga junction and finally hit a nearby billboard with heavy metal rods close to the Total Energy filling Station. The truck was fully loaded with fertiliser bags. NADMO together with the National Fire Service from Knust and several military men as well as the Police Officers from Oforikrom came to the scene to embark on a rescue mission.

“In all five female adults got injured, a male adult died, and the little girl also perished. So, the total number of casualties stood at seven”, the official narrated.

This is the second time such an incident has occurred at that spot within two weeks.

The NADMO official told dailymailgh.com that investigations have commenced into this latest incident. The driver of the truck has since been detained to assist police investigations.

There is however a strong push to decongest portions of the road to prevent such disasters.

“This is the second time such a sad incident has occurred on that stretch. I appeal to authorities to relocate those vendors to new places. We need to prevail on authorities to lead this charge”, a resident who gave his name as Kwabena Kusi said.

“Quite a disturbing development but I think it is high time authorities took urgent steps to address this issue. There should be police visibility around this stretch, our traffic lights are not working. We will come back to this topic again if authorities don’t do the needful”, another said.
