NPP is fast speeding towards destruction – Daavi Ama

According to her, the situation where sitting ministers and other government appointees declare their support for candidates is totally wrong and must not be encouraged.

A former national treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Gifty Ama Asantewah Ayeh, says that the party is fast speeding towards destruction with the open endorsements of persons interested in becoming the flagbearer of the party for the 2024 elections.

According to her, the situation where sitting ministers and other government appointees declare their support for candidates is totally wrong and must not be encouraged.

In an interview with ‘The Inquisitor’ in Accra yesterday, Madam Ayeh, popularly called ‘Daavi Ama,’ said: “As members of the Elephant family we should be mindful of the things that we do today because of tomorrow.’’

Some sitting ministers, including Madam Mavis Hawa Koomson, Mr. Egyapa Mercer and Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, have in recent times endorsed the Vice President, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, as the person to lead the NPP in 2024.

Madam Ayeh said: “Endorsing candidates and touting their credentials and achievements in no small way tells the public that the sitting leader is virtually doing nothing.’’

She said: “As Democrats, we must be seen to be doing this right, but the truth is that the current happenings are not the best for the NPP.’’
“There are lots of important party programmes and the election of a flagbearer is just one of them and that should not be used as a springboard towards self-destruction,’’ she said.

She said: “The NPP as a party should come out boldly with steps to address some of these unhealthy developments because there is an important agenda ahead of us.’’

Madam Ayeh told ‘The Inquisitor’ that the destruction trigger must not be fired at the time that the NPP, as party in power, has a lot of work to do.
“The party and the government do not need destruction at this time so those who are doing things to suit others must play their game well because of the greater interest of the NPP.’’
