Otumfuo destools Kwaprahene in ‘absentia’
Following a hearing, the President of the Traditional Council recalled prior warnings and pardons, leading to the swift order for Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin’s destoolment.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has brought an almost three-decade-long rule to a close by destooling Kwaprahene Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin during the proceedings of the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday (11 December).
This action followed the findings of guilt against Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin, who faced charges including the illegal sale of lands, multiple land transactions, embezzlement of stool funds, and a display of contempt for the Golden Stool and the Akwamu Division.
The destoolment took place in absentia, as attempts by the Akwamu Division and summons by the King went unanswered.
Immediate rites were ordered to formalize his destoolment.
Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin was accused of misconduct for engaging in the sale of stool lands without consulting his elders and for embezzling funds allocated for the stool.
Additionally, he faced allegations of selling the same land to multiple individuals within his jurisdiction, leaving some claimants without recourse despite legal victories.
The case reached Otumfuo and the traditional council officially after one victim pursued traditional channels, paving the way for others to present their cases against the chief.

The stool elders of Kwapra also faced criticism for their failure to address the chief’s misconduct.
Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin now joins the ranks of traditional rulers destooled by the King of the Asante Kingdom this year, including former Antoahene Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman I, Kwasohene Nana Nketia Boampong, Bekwai Abodomhene Nana Saforo Koto, and Nkonsonhene Nana Osei Tiri Ababio.
