Partisan Politics rife in GRA as Board Secretary Yaw Boamah-Nyarko begins Campaign for Parliament

…Contrary to Constitutional Provision

Board Secretary of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, has been sighted severally meddling in partisan politics contrary to Article 94(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Deep Throat sources have confirmed to us that Mr Boamah-Nyarko is currently lacing his boots to contest as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effia Constituency, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, in the Western Region on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Article 94(3) of the 1992 constitution provides that: “A person shall not be eligible to be a Member of Parliament if he is a member of the Police Service, the Prison Service, the Armed Forces, the Judicial Service, the Legal Service, the Civil Service, the Audit Service, the Parliamentary Service, the Statistical Service, the Fire Service, the Customs, Exercise and Preventive Service, the Immigration Service, or the Internal Revenue Service”.

This provision clearly indicates that, a person from the Customs, Exercise and Preventive Service, the Immigration Service, or the Internal Revenue Service (now Ghana Revenue Authority) cannot meddle in partisan politics, however, our investigations have revealed that, Boamah-Nyarko is neck deep into NPP partisan politics in the Effia Constituency and the Western Region.

Investigations revealed further that he was a constituency patron of the party from 2018 to 2021 political year and his name has been submitted again by his followers, to be made a patron from 2023.

To make matters worse, this GRA staff in 2020 was appointed by the then Regional Executives as the Western Regional Campaign Team member of the NPP, during the electioneering campaign and currently has been formally appointed as a Finance Committee member of NPP Western Region, grossly violating the country’s constitution.

The question now arises as to whether the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is aware that one of their staff is openly bringing the name of Ghana’s revenue mobilization institution into disrepute and public ridicule contrary to Article 94(3) of the Constitution?

Interestingly, it was uncovered that, some top managers (both current and retired) of the GRA are backing his political partisanship instead of reprimanding him or asking him to resign from his position in order not to draw the name of the Authority into disrepute.

Their backing, shows in his wanton distribution of seized vehicles by Customs to support partisan activities.

Investigations have revealed that, the Management of the GRA wants to reward him with an Assistant Commissioner Position, of which he has already attended an interview.

There are serious agitations among his peers who were all employed at GRA at the same time.

The illegality and unconstitutionality being perpetuated by this Lawyer Isaac Boamah-Nyarko is disgraceful not only to his person and his legal profession but to the well respected institution like GRA.

Some people already privy with the issue are posing questions like “Are his bosses at the GRA aware?”

Also, we are aware that the incumbent MP who is a lawmaker and Minister for Public Enterprises, knows about this development but one is wondering whether he is minded to do something about it.

What is the Public Services Commission doing about this?
