Seasons’s greetings to Major-General Oppong-Peprah, Chief of Army Staff

"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."

I am a Citizen and not a Spectator!

I say there must be a single reason for a Commanding Officer displaying a huge billboard at the entrance to his Unit quoting Major-General Oppong-Peprah as follows:

“There will be a thousand and one reasons why it cannot be done. There will also be ONE SINGLE REASON why it must be done. Look out for that reason.”

Indeed, on 6th December 2023, two young platoon commanders of the Sandema No.12 Mechanized Battalion barracks gave me an insight into what they said is the impact of the exemplary leadership of their COAS General Oppong- Peprah on their personal development as leaders of today and tomorrow!

Then, I reflected on the thought of Pericles, the Great Greek General of the Golden Age of Athens:

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

In the two years I have been permanently stationed in a dangerous and deadly Bawku general area, as well as working in other frontiers of the Northern Sector, I have noted the role played by the Ghana Army under the leadership of General Oppong-Peprah to keep our frontiers safe from terrorists and other armed groups.

I have often stated that I have noted that the Army is like a thin rope that holds our pant from falling off to expose our national disgrace. And Major-General Oppong-Peprah continues to play an immense role in keeping that thin rope in shape for our national stability and security.

All too soon, I have come to the end of my duty tour of Bawku and the Northern Axis – effective midnight 31st December 2023. I take the opportunity to wish Major-General Oppong-Peprah and the Ghana Army, a merry Christmas and more peace, progress and prosperity in the new year.

I shall return.
