Sexually Active Teenagers must be introduced to Family Planning – NGO

He observed that Ghanaians are witnessing these problems due to some social vices including broken homes, peer pressure, among others.

Statistics from the Ghana Health Services (GHS) indicate that Ghana recorded about 555,575 cases of teenage pregnancies between the year 2016 and 2020. This involves about 542,131 girls within the age range of 15 and 19 while the remaining 13,444 falls within the ages of 10 and 14.

In an exclusive interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, Executive Director of the Teenage Sisters Group, a Non-Governmental Organization, Prince Effah Boakye suggested that, sexually active teenagers must be encouraged to partake in family planning to help reduce the overlapping pregnancies in the country.

Effah Boakye said, though it is very bad for a child between the ages of ten and nineteen to undergo family planning they must be encouraged to practice it for the sake of the future of the country.

He blamed the situation on the inability of the government to support non-governmental and civil society organizations that are eager to educate the teenagers on the consequences of teenage pregnancies with logistics.

He observed that Ghanaians are witnessing these problems due to some social vices including broken homes, peer pressure, among others.

He urged the government to as a matter of urgency support Non-Governmental Organizations to help educate the teenagers on early sex and teenage pregnancies to help reduce the impact of the situation.
