National Food Buffer Stock Company has done well and will do better – Deputy Minister

The Deputy Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has applauded the strides of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) in providing food for over one million students for over six years and recommends that more could be done.
National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited was incorporated under the Companies Code of Ghana, 1963, Act 179, on 11th March 2010. It is a limited liability company, wholly owned by the government of Ghana to manage the government’s emergency food security reserves.

Fatimatu Abubakar entreated the public not to bastardize the work of the Buffer Stock but called on Ghanaians to bear with Buffer Stock and support it to perform better. “We wish there were no challenges with supplies at all. Even if a school with a population of seven hundred is experiencing food shortage, it is equally important and has to be addressed”.
She was speaking to a report of food shortages in some senior high schools in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show.
However, the Deputy Minister for information however explained that it is not in anybody’s interest that food will be in short supply to schools hence it is inappropriate to try to score political points from it and also attributed the food supply challenges to the quest of suppliers for higher prices and financial constraints.
“As NAFCO has been able to feed about 1.2 million students over this period, it means all the other disappointments and issues that may come up with shortages for a day or two as some challenges that we as a people should try to bear with them due to the times that we are in. Of course we wish there wouldn’t be any distractions or problems with food supply at all.” Fatimatu Abubakar further assured that efforts are consistently made to rectify the situation for the supplies to get to the schools.
