NDC must Set a New Standard in Governance when Voted Into Office in 2024 – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, says the party must set new standards of governing the country when voted into power in the 2024 general elections.
“The rot in the current government, economic hardships, insensitivity to the plights of the masses, corruption and waste of national resources would be outdated when the NDC comes into power after the 2024 elections – in government, the NDC must be seen doing things differently from what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been doing to restore hope and dignity to the citizenry,” Mr Mahama said.
The former President was speaking at a mammoth gathering by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to mark the 44th anniversary celebration of the June 4, 1979 uprising, at Hohoe in the Volta region on Sunday June 4, 2023.
He said although winning the 2024 general election may not be easy, the NDC becoming victorious would end the suffering of Ghanaians and enable the party to reset the nation on a pedestal of transformation and rapid growth and development.
Mr Mahama said the NDC was responsible for organising and spreading a message of hope to all Ghanaians across the nation and the collective responsibility of all, especially the inheritors of the June 4 uprising tradition, was to guard the country’s democratic space jealously and ensure its sustenance and survival.
The NDC flagbearer said, current happenings in the country were no different from those that led to the June 4 uprising and noted that citizens were wallowing in abject poverty, and economic uncertainty which called for a change in the status quo.

Mr Mahama called on the citizenry to be guided by history as a nation and do things that were necessary to restore hope and confidence in the country.
Member of Parliament (MP), Korle Klottey Constituency, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings said inclusivity, respect for the rights of citizens, responsiveness of government to the needs of the people were the strong pillars protecting the country’s democracy.
She said the NDC must prove to the people of Ghana that it was truly a child of the revolution by adhering to the principles of integrity, accountability and transparency and let their speech and actions reflect those principles.
General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said, the June 4 revolution was a trumpet that had awakened the consciousness of Ghanaians and opened the door to a greater awareness that led to a golden age for the nation.
He urged the younger generation to appreciate and understand who they were as members of the NDC and citizens of our dear nation Ghana who had a charge towards the unborn generation.
The NDC’s 2020 presidential running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang was joined by some party stalwarts to lay wreaths on behalf of the people of Ghana and the party’s fallen heroes and heroines.
The 44th anniversary of the historic event was marked on the theme: “Saving our Democracy – The Spirit of June 4.”
