Nimatu Yakubu: GhanaWeb’s Parliamentary Correspondent appointed Convener of CDD’s Media Forum on Electoral Reforms

The goal is to empower them to actively advocate for electoral reforms that will ultimately enhance the integrity, transparency, and peaceful conduct of elections in Ghana. By fostering collaboration among media professionals, the forum seeks to contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the democratic processes in the country.

Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese, the Head of the Africa News Desk and Parliamentary correspondent for GhanaWeb has been appointed convener of the Media for Electoral Reform Forum (Media Forum). This forum, established with the primary goal of championing transparent, credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections in Ghana, is a collaborative project led by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and its affiliated partners, including the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) and the Affirmative Action Bill Coalition.

With an illustrious career spanning over a decade in parliamentary and court reporting, Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese brings a wealth of experience to her role as a convener. The appointment, announced by CDD on Thursday, November 9, 2023, reflects the unanimous choice made by fellow journalists within the Media Forum. Alongside Nimatu, Wilberforce Asare was also selected as a convener, forming a formidable team to lead the group.

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development expressed their confidence in the newly appointed conveners, stating in a tweet via their official social media platforms: “We have our conveners: Journalists partaking in our #MediaForum on electoral reforms have unanimously selected Wilberforce Asare (@WilberAsare) and Nimatu Yakubu (@Atouyese_ ) as the conveners to take forum members to the next level. What a formidable team!”
