The Coalition of Newly Posted Teachers wants the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate allegations that some officials have been extorting money from their members in order to take them through a biometric process at various registration centers.
The exercise ensures that newly-posted teachers across the country are validated as they begin work at their new stations.
But the coalition alleged in a statement that, some of the biometric officials and Integrated Personnel and Payroll Database (IPPD) Coordinators in some Metros, Municipal, and District Education offices charge between ¢50 and ¢100 at their various registrations centers before being taken through the exercise.
The statement further claimed that the amount was “going to be used for transportation for biometric officials”. Recounting some of the reports it has received the group wants the Director General of the Ghana Education Service to “call these officers to order” to prevent what it describes as a “daylight robbery from happening under your watch which will go a long way to tarnish your reputable office”.
