OccupyGhana to Sue Auditor-General over his inaction

“There is something fundamentally wrong with an institution that doesn’t do what it is supposed to do, it can’t be right. We can’t sit and somebody comes to tell us you have cost the nation 12.21 billion and doesn’t do anything about it”, Mr. Casely-Hayford told Korku Lumor

Pressure group, #OccupyGhana is threatening to sue the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu over his inaction in as far as surcharging corrupt and wasteful officeholders and institutions who have caused financial loss to the state is concerned.

A Leading member of the group, Sydney Casely-Hayford, told Accra-based Class FM Wednesday that the group has virtually run out of patience after several written requests for surcharging had fallen on the A-G’s deaf ears.

“There is something fundamentally wrong with an institution that doesn’t do what it is supposed to do, it can’t be right. We can’t sit and somebody comes to tell us you have cost the nation 12.21 billion and doesn’t do anything about it”, Mr. Casely-Hayford told Korku Lumor.

This comes days after the organisation served a final demand notice to the Attorney-General‘s (AG) office for information on the disallowance and surcharges on previous audit reports by the Auditor-General.

The expressed disappointment that Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu is the antithesis of the public favorite predecessor, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, whose anti-corruption scuffles with the Akufo-Addo government led to the corrupt president hounding him out of office.

According to Mr. Casely-Hayford, the office of the Auditor-General was making significant progress under its former head, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, however, the current one, has so far failed to perform to expectation.

Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu is widely perceived as a stooge of the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House, and was elevated to the high office after his political godfather, Prof. Edward Dua-Agyemang, who is the Chairman of the Audit Service Board, led the government’s hatchet job to hound out Domelevo.

Akuamoah Asiedu is viewed by many as the guy who will look the other way while actors of the current government loot state resources.

Apparently, #OccupyGhana sees him as doing just that.
