T’di Pregnant Woman: Case adjourned to June 7 for her defence

According to the presiding Judge, given the fact that the case has gained national interest, there was the need for things to be done orderly and expeditiously.

Counsel for 28-year-old resident of Takoradi Josephine Panyin Mensah, who is accused of faking her pregnancy and kidnapping, Fiifi Buckman has revealed that apart from the accused, they will be relying on two other witnesses they prepares to open her defence.

He explained that though several people are willing to testify, it looks like all appear to have the same testimony.

According to him, it is not the number of witnesses that will determine whether one has a good case or not but the quality of witnesses.

Accused Josephine Panyin Mensah was expected to, for the first time, narrate her side of the case of fake kidnapping and pregnancy to the Justice Michael Ampadu court on Thursday, May 19.

This was after the court had finished hearing the testimonies of eight witnesses of the prosecution.

Unfortunately, when the case was called, Counsel Buckman had not filed their witness statement.

Presiding Judge Michael Ampadu, therefore, ordered her counsel to file their witness statement before the next adjourned date, which is June 7, 2022.

According to the presiding Judge, given the fact that the case has gained national interest, there was the need for things to be done orderly and expeditiously.

He, therefore, asked Counsel for Josephine Panyin Mensah to file their witness statement and all relevant documents they will rely on as part of the case management after which the accused person will open her defence.

Fifii Buckman told Connect FM that the witness statement will be filed before the next court sitting.

He mentioned that his client is doing well, “just that she is still under the pressure of the albatross around her neck. But we are trusting that we will expedite this trial and see where the axe will fall”.

Fifii Buckman maintained that his client is innocent of all charges against her, stressing “that gave me the conviction to stand by her in defense from the beginning”.
